Automotive Locksmith Services

A standard metal key, a transponder chip, a remote-head key and a smart proximity key are not the same product. Correct replacement depends on the vehicle's security system, market specification and present condition. Explore the services below to understand which information to send us.

Lost Car Keys & All Keys Lost

When the only working key is missing, the next step is not always a simple duplicate. Some vehicles need a new mechanical blade, a programmed transponder, smart-key registration, or a security-module procedure. We review the model, year, key style, and situation before recommending a path forward.

An all-keys-lost case can be different from adding a second key. Tell us whether the key was misplaced, stolen, damaged, or locked in the vehicle. If a key may have been stolen, ask about whether the supported system allows missing keys to be removed from memory. Not every model supports every option.

First identify the key system

The model year alone is not always enough to identify the correct immobilizer or smart key variant. Imported specifications, prior module changes and key frequency can change what parts are compatible.

Next determine whether the vehicle is accessible

An all-keys-lost vehicle may be parked in a garage, behind a gated entrance, or on a restricted installation. Access, parking clearance and the ability to work safely on-site affect the service plan.

Then confirm parts and security requirements

Some replacements require advance ordering, proof of ownership, a security procedure or module-related work. We will not suggest a guaranteed one-visit job without first checking the details.

Finally verify normal operation

Depending on the key type and vehicle system, completion checks can include blade operation, door locks, ignition/start authorization, remote buttons and proximity detection.

Replacement Car Keys

A damaged case, broken blade, failed remote, or missing key may require different parts and labor. We evaluate whether the vehicle needs a cut metal key, remote-equipped transponder, proximity fob, or other replacement.

A replacement shell is not the same as a programmed replacement key. A vehicle may unlock mechanically yet still refuse to start until the correct electronic credentials are present. Send photos of both sides of your existing key, if available.

Mechanical blade replacement

A physically damaged key may need an appropriate key blank and accurate cutting. For some vehicles the blade is only an emergency entry key, not a complete engine-start solution.

Remote and key housing issues

A broken case or worn buttons do not necessarily mean the immobilizer is defective. Photos and a description of which functions still operate can avoid unnecessary parts.

Original or compatible components

Vehicle manufacturers may use several key revisions and frequency variants. We check the part and region before discussing OEM or compatible alternatives.

Lost versus damaged keys

A nonworking key that is still present may contain important information; a completely lost key is a different diagnostic situation. Tell us exactly what you have.

Smart Key & Push-Start Programming

Push-button start vehicles typically rely on a proximity key communicating with the vehicle. Depending on the model, adding a key and recovering from all keys lost may use completely different procedures.

Remote lock/unlock and engine-start authorization are separate functions on some systems. We check these functions when applicable and explain any compatibility limitations before starting work.

Proximity operation

Many push-start vehicles detect a smart key inside or close to the car. A depleted fob battery, a registration problem and an antenna fault can feel similar but require different solutions.

Correct frequency and part number

Japanese-market, U.S.-market and European-market keys may look alike but use different radio frequencies or electronics. We confirm details rather than judging solely by button count.

Add-key procedures

When one working smart key exists, adding another may be supported with a more straightforward method. Some vehicles have limitations that must be checked first.

All-keys-lost procedures

When no working smart key remains, certain vehicles require extra authorization, security information or module work. A quote reflects the real procedure and parts required.

Immobilizer & Transponder Keys

An immobilizer is the security system that checks electronic key authorization before the engine can start. Many automotive keys contain a small transponder chip even if the blade looks ordinary.

An immobilizer warning, no-start condition, or missing electronic key can have different causes. Key-related service should begin with a clear description of the symptoms, the vehicle model and year, and whether another working key exists.

What the immobilizer does

The transponder or smart key provides electronic authorization to the vehicle. A correctly cut metal blade is not automatically enough to start an immobilizer-equipped engine.

Symptoms worth reporting

A key warning lamp, starter behavior, intermittent no-start condition or a recent ECU/BCM replacement can help determine whether a key service or deeper diagnosis is appropriate.

Vehicle security comes first

Proof of ownership or lawful authorization is necessary. We do not publish step-by-step bypass instructions and do not perform work without appropriate authorization.

Avoid unnecessary replacements

Sometimes the root cause is a discharged battery, wrong key, communication issue or hardware fault rather than the original key itself. A clear initial description saves time.

Car Door Unlock & Lockout

Keys locked inside a vehicle? Tell us the exact location, vehicle model, and whether a child, pet, or person is trapped. We can evaluate a vehicle lockout service and appropriate access method.

Our goal is careful vehicle entry when feasible; no locksmith can promise zero risk for every lock or damaged vehicle. Emergency situations involving a person in danger require local emergency services first.

Locked key inside

Tell us whether the key is visible through the glass and which door was last used. This information may help identify a suitable and careful access plan.

Lost key and locked vehicle

If all keys are missing and the vehicle is also locked, opening the vehicle does not necessarily solve the immobilizer or start authorization problem. We can evaluate both needs.

Safety priority

If a child, pet or anyone at risk is locked inside in dangerous conditions, contact the appropriate emergency responders immediately. Do not wait for a regular locksmith appointment.

Restricted or paid parking

Let us know about base access, parking-garage height, locked gates, parking fees, or other restrictions that could prevent the service vehicle from reaching you.

Spare Car Keys & Remotes

Having one working key is the best time to ask about a spare. A backup can reduce the inconvenience and cost of an unexpected loss, particularly when you need daily access to a car for work, family, or commuting.

Depending on the car, a spare may be a mechanical-only emergency key, a transponder key that starts the engine, or a complete smart key with remote buttons. We clarify the functions of each option before quoting.

Choose the functions you need

Some drivers only need a door-entry backup while others need full engine-start and remote-button operation. We explain which functions are included in each quote.

Check the existing key

Please show a photograph of your current working key and tell us the vehicle model year. The shape, number of buttons and part details can help identify the required type.

Test the new key

A spare should be checked for intended lock, start and remote functions before completion. Ask how the emergency blade operates if the car uses push-button start.

Protect your investment

Store the spare separately from your main key and keep its location known to an authorized household member. Avoid leaving all keys on the same ring.

10 · COMPATIBILITY GUIDE

How Vehicle Year & Key System Change the Job

Japanese domestic-market (JDM) vehicles

In Japan, vehicles such as the Toyota Prius, Nissan Note, Honda N-BOX and Suzuki Spacia are common. Their keys can differ markedly between trim levels and production years. Some use straightforward mechanical blades, while others rely on a registered transponder or proximity fob. Send the full model designation when possible, not just the popular model name.

U.S.-spec and imported vehicles in Okinawa

Okinawa has a mix of vehicles purchased in Japan and vehicles imported or used by members of the U.S. military community. Similar-looking remotes may not share the same frequency or immobilizer generation. Confirm whether the car is a U.S. or Japanese specification and whether any security modules or locks have been replaced.

German and European key systems

BMW, MINI, Mercedes-Benz, Audi and Volkswagen vehicles may have manufacturer-specific immobilizer and key registration requirements. Parts selection, electronic compatibility and immobilizer authorization can be more involved than for a standard metal key. We check the precise chassis, model year and current key situation before promising an option.

SUVs, pickup trucks and family vehicles

Large SUVs, minivans and pickup trucks are common around Okinawa. The physical size of the vehicle does not determine the key procedure. Security generation, ignition type, trim and market specification are the useful details to identify.

Used cars with just one key

Buying a used car with only one working key is common. Ask about making a spare soon after purchase. Photograph the current key, check the remote operation and keep the registration information available.

Cars with changed ECUs or security modules

An engine ECU, BCM, immobilizer module or steering lock replaced by a previous owner can complicate a new key job. If you know about module replacement, aftermarket security devices, a prior theft repair or unusual key behavior, tell us before scheduling.

13 · GETTING STARTED

How a Car Key Service Inquiry Works

Providing the right information upfront is the best way to avoid wasted travel, incompatible parts and an inaccurate quotation. Here is the typical inquiry workflow.

01

Send a Message

Tell us the manufacturer, model, model year and location. Select whether you need a replacement, spare key, smart-key registration or vehicle unlock.

02

Share Useful Photos

If possible, share a photo of your current key, vehicle registration information with unnecessary personal details covered, ignition or start button, and any dashboard warning.

03

Confirm the Key Situation

Tell us whether one working key remains or every key is missing. Mention previous repairs, changed modules, or any current no-start symptoms.

04

Check Options & Estimate

We review the model and key system, likely parts, location and travel needs. We explain any conditions or uncertainty before you approve work.

05

Arrange the Appointment

If the service is available, agree on a location and time. Military-base or restricted-property access must be confirmed beforehand.

06

Complete & Test

When the job is performed, verify the functions included in the agreed service and ask any questions before leaving.

14 · QUOTES

Car Key Replacement Cost in Okinawa

There is no honest fixed price that covers every vehicle. An ordinary additional metal key, a programmed spare transponder, an OEM smart fob and an all-keys-lost job can be completely different services. We prefer a clear, vehicle-specific estimate.

Key type and function

A mechanical-only key, remote head, transponder key and proximity smart key have different components and labor requirements. Ask whether emergency blade cutting and remote functions are included.

One key or no key?

Adding a spare while one working key remains may be a very different procedure from recovering a vehicle after the last key is lost. State this clearly in your first inquiry.

Make, year and market

Part numbers, security systems and radio frequencies can change between model years and regions. U.S.-spec, Japan-spec and imported variants should be identified before ordering parts.

Location and timing

Travel time, the exact parking location, restricted access, urgency, after-hours work and parts collection may affect the total. Please ask about any applicable travel or holiday charge.

Diagnosis and module work

A missing key is not the same as an immobilizer hardware fault. Unusual no-start behavior, module replacements or corrupted data may require separate diagnosis or specialist procedures.

Proof of authorization

Ownership and identity checks protect everyone involved. We may request registration, photo identification or other evidence of legal authority before unlocking or programming a vehicle.

ESTIMATE REQUEST

Send your year, make, model, key situation and current location. If you already have one key, attach clear photos of the front and back.

16 · KEY KNOWLEDGE

Understand Your Car Key Before You Buy

The terms used by dealerships, parts sellers and locksmiths can be confusing. These short explanations can help you describe the issue accurately when asking for an estimate.

What is a transponder key?

A transponder key contains an electronic chip that can authorize engine starting when the vehicle recognizes it. The chip may be hidden inside an ordinary-looking plastic key head. Cutting the blade correctly is only part of the job on an immobilizer-equipped vehicle. A key that turns the ignition but will not start the engine may require electronic registration or diagnosis. The correct solution depends on the vehicle, and registration should be performed only with authorization.

What is a proximity or smart key?

A smart key commonly works with push-button start and passive entry. The vehicle exchanges information with an authorized electronic fob. When replacing one, the mechanical emergency blade, radio frequency, part number and immobilizer compatibility should all be considered. A visually similar remote may not work. Some models also require a defined procedure when all keys are lost rather than when adding a second key.

Why do different vehicle markets matter?

A U.S.-spec vehicle may have different remotes, security configurations or parts from its Japan-spec counterpart. This matters in Okinawa, where both markets are represented. Tell us where the vehicle was originally sold if you know, whether its locks or modules have been replaced, and what keys worked before the problem started. This makes parts selection more reliable.

What about key batteries?

A weak remote battery can cause intermittent lock or proximity behavior, but replacing the battery does not register a new key. Some cars provide an emergency method to recognize a low-battery smart key. Consult the vehicle owner manual for the model-specific procedure. If symptoms persist after a battery replacement, describe the dashboard messages and whether another key works.

Is a used key always reusable?

No. Some electronic keys are locked to a previous vehicle, while certain systems or compatible components may allow lawful renewal under specific conditions. A used fob being the same shape or using the same button layout does not establish compatibility. Ask about new OEM or suitable compatible keys and any limitations before buying a used key online.

What should tourists do when a key is lost?

If you are using a rental vehicle, contact the rental company first and follow its policies. If you own the vehicle, confirm where the vehicle is safely parked, gather the registration and identification, and send the location and key situation. If the car is inside a hotel garage or restricted parking area, describe access conditions when requesting an estimate.

What if the car cannot communicate with the key tool?

Communication failure does not necessarily indicate a bad key. Battery voltage, vehicle networks, security gateways, previous modifications and module condition can affect diagnosis. Explain any warning lights, recent electrical work or previous attempts. A remote estimate may need to remain provisional until the vehicle is inspected.

What does key cloning mean?

Some supported transponder systems allow an authorized backup key to be created from a working key; others require vehicle-side registration. Cloning is not a universal shortcut, and it does not automatically provide remote or smart proximity functions. Ask which functions are actually included when comparing quotes.

17 · FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

These answers provide general guidance. For an accurate answer about your own vehicle, please send the model year, key photos and current situation.

Can you make a car key if I have lost every key?

For many vehicles, we can evaluate an all-keys-lost replacement. The method and availability depend on the model year, immobilizer generation, key type, parts, and security requirements. Send your vehicle information before arranging a visit.

Can you come to Kadena Air Base or Camp Foster?

We serve customers in the surrounding communities and can discuss the most practical meeting or work location. Access to installations is subject to base rules, sponsorship, authorization, and individual circumstances. Do not assume entry is guaranteed.

Do you speak English?

English-language inquiries are welcome. You can provide vehicle details, photos, and the location in English. If a complex technical issue requires extra clarification, we will ask follow-up questions.

How much is a replacement key in Okinawa?

Prices vary significantly by key system, vehicle year, whether a working key remains, parts availability, and travel distance. We provide a case-specific estimate rather than publishing a misleading universal price.

Is a spare key cheaper than losing every key?

Often, adding a key while a working key exists is more straightforward, but the exact difference depends on the vehicle. Ask for the specific quote for your car.

Do I need to tow my car to a dealer?

Some key-related work can be done at the vehicle, while other cases may require special parts, module work, or a dealer. We will discuss what appears feasible before scheduling service.

Can you program a used smart key?

Some systems support compatible renewed or reusable keys, while others require a new, vehicle-specific key. Used-key compatibility should never be assumed from the appearance alone.

Can you supply an original OEM key?

Ask us whether an OEM key, compatible aftermarket key, or a limited-function spare is available for your model. Availability, part numbers, frequencies, and stock vary.

My remote unlocks the car but the engine will not start. Can you help?

Remote operation and immobilizer authorization can be separate. Describe the dashboard messages, available keys, and any recent battery or module changes so we can advise on the next diagnostic step.

Can you cut a key from the vehicle identification number?

Methods vary by manufacturer and region, and proof of ownership is required. A VIN alone does not guarantee that a working key can be produced.

What documents should I prepare?

Prepare proof of ownership or legal authorization and photo identification, plus the registration and vehicle details if available. Additional documentation may be requested depending on the situation.

How long does car key programming take?

Timing depends on the key system, diagnostic condition, parts, and travel time. We can provide a more useful estimate after confirming the exact vehicle and whether a working key exists.

Can you open my vehicle without damaging it?

We aim to use careful methods suitable for the vehicle, but outcomes depend on lock condition, previous damage, and vehicle design. We cannot guarantee a risk-free result for all situations.

Do you work on imported U.S.-spec vehicles?

We receive inquiries for both Japanese domestic-market and imported vehicles. U.S.-spec and Japan-spec versions can use different key frequencies or security systems; please provide the exact model year and relevant details.

Do you work with motorcycles and scooters?

Motorcycle key support varies widely by model, key system, and available equipment. Send the manufacturer, model, year, and photos of the ignition and remaining key if you have one.

Do you work at night or on holidays?

Please inquire about current availability and any applicable after-hours or travel charges. Do not interpret this website as a guarantee of 24-hour response.

What if I am outside the main Okinawa island?

Remote islands may require separate travel arrangements and may not be available for on-site service. Contact us before assuming coverage or booking transportation.

My model is not on your website. Should I still ask?

Yes. The model lists are examples of vehicles about which customers may inquire, not an exhaustive verified compatibility chart. We check support using your exact vehicle information.
